The game is a rail shooter like the first game, i.e. you are led by the game down a path similar to Rebel Assault, shooting at zombies and other monstrosities that get in your way. Although the English version that is being distributed by Empire Interactive unfortunately doesn't ship with the PC gun like its Japan counterpart, HOD2 still manages to be a fun and addictive FPS that everyone should enjoy.

Similar to its predecessor, HOD2 is not a shoot everything in sight game. You have to be careful not to hit any innocent civilian, and rescuing them from the clutches of the monsters often rewards you with power-ups or, better yet, new paths to follow. This makes the game somewhat replayable as you can do something different (e.g. saving someone's life as opposed to watching him die in the last game) to open up new branches.
As well as the original arcade modes, there is plenty of extra effects. There are 5 game modes including Arcade and Boss, 12 different kinds of zombies including the chainsaw wielding Max and the disgusting Ebitan. End-level bosses are appropriately difficult to kill, although some of them are far too easy to dispose of once you find their weak spots.

With an excellent co-operative multi-play option (across LAN) and 6 chapters of mayhem, HOD2 is a much more attractive, varied, and longer game than the original. Be warned, though: near-superhuman reflexes and tenacity are prerequisites to finishing one of the best rail shooters ever made. There are even plot twists to keep things interesting, as well as multiple endings.

The House of the Dead is a "rail shooter" - a kind of game I have not seen before on a PC platform although it is well known for arcade fans Download Now.

For those of you who aren't familiar with the expression "rail shooter": unlike the usual first-person shooters such as Quake, Doom and so on, in House of the Dead you are not able to choose the directions yourself, only where the game wants you to go. So all that is left to you is shooting on anything that moves :-) Think Rebel Assault on foot, and you'll have a good idea of what HOTD is about.

The story is rather simple. Your girlfriend Sarah leaves a message on your answering machine, telling you she has been captured by a guy called Curien. You, being the chip of the Hero, want to rush out to the place in order to free her. That is where the game begins. As you are 'led' by the game around a place overcrowded with zombies and monsters of all kind, you will constantly be busy shooting, no more, no less. Even though the only weapon you have is a plain 9mm-pistol, that thing obviously leaves holes in bodies in gory manners that are definitely not suitable for kids. Let me say this way: "losing your head" gets a whole new meaning when playing The House of the Dead ;-)

There are quite a few options to toggle. The game plays as well with or without Direct-X support, depending on the options you select. The graphics will remind you of Alone in the dark and similar games, but with more detail. German Authorities (and most likely other as well) will be glad to hear that you can alter the color of blood in the game (yellow, blue, green, red). You can also choose from several gameplay modes, chiefly "arcade" which gives you fixed settings you cannot alter, and "PC mode" where you can choose your avatar, and along with him alter the damage he does as well as the chamber-size of the pistol. The "Reload" option of the gun can be switched on and off, and the lives you have can be set from 1 to 5. The game also features the "Boss-Mode" where you can train only the bosses at the end of each stage.

You have to fight your way through 4 stages, at the end of each awaits some sort of boss ...so nothing really surprising here either. While fighting the bosses of the first 3 stages you get a firm information sheet where to shoot to harm your opponents. The 4th (and last one) just offers you an "unknown type" so you have to find out how to defeat this one yourself.

As you can tell by now, its a rather common and 'uninteresting' implementation of an usual setting. What makes HOTD more challenging and unique compared to other shooters is the fact that you have to be careful not to shoot innocent civilians. If you accidentally shoot them, it will cost you a life. On the other hand, rescuing them (by shooting the monsters around them) will get you an extra-live as well as increase your score, or can open up optional paths. Therefore, although HOTD is a rail shooter, it offers a certain amount of nonlinear gameplay. Some of the directions you can alter are quite obvious, while others are hidden behind trapdoors. Also bonus-gems (why these had to be frogs only SEGA will know) can be found hidden within the game.

While Disney's animated adaptation of Edgar Rice Burroughs' Tarzan of the Apes' may have failed to capture the magic that made it one of the greatest novels of the 20th century. The video game adaptation of the Disney movie offers a more than serviceable action platforming experience.

Run through the jungle, collecting tokens and fruit while avoiding enemies in this regard, Disney's Tarzan is very similar to the Donkey Kong Country games. Though Disney's Tarzan is fully 3D rendered, and there are some curling and curving side paths, Tarzan is a relatively linear 2D platformer. And that's OK! You can race your way through the somewhat lengthy levels. Jumping through trees and swinging from vines quickly or you might take a leisurely (or thorough) approach. Finding all of the items and secrets each level has to offer.

While Donkey Kong Country's jungle runs may be brutal and unforgiving. Tarzan puts a greater onus on level length than deathtraps and dirty tricks to stretch out its playtime. To be sure, there are some hard spots, but it's difficulty rarely feels "unfair" for instance, nothing in Tarzan is comparable to The Lion King's nightmarish "Can't Wait To Be King" level.


Everything in the game is brightly coloured and well-rendered; much of the CG looks almost animation-quality. It's definitely no shovel-ware. There are a few qualms I have with this one, though. You'll get tired of hearing Tarzan's beast cry (especially young Tarzan's beast cry) very quickly. Many of the enemies weave in-and-out of the 2-D path, it can be hard sometimes to tell when one of the enemies is actually in your hit-plane. And the lemurs. Having actually worked with ring-tailed lemurs, I can tell you that they're less dangerous than cats. The notion that Tarzan, who tore apart lions with his bare hands. Fought against the agents of Stalin and led a crack team of African riflemen against the dinosaur riding serpent men of the inner earth. Could be hurt by a ring-tailed lemur is laughable!

With the largest viewable surface, Space Cadet is the most straightforward and most comfortable of the three tables. All the tables have a nice built-in help feature: small arrows light up to show you the next target/ramp/bumper to hit for bonus points.

One of the best features of Pinball is the soundtrack. You will hear digitized pirates telling you to walk the plank on the pirate-themed Skullderduggery table, kings commanding you to slay the dragon on the fantasy-themed Dragon's Keep. Sound effects such as laser fire, cannon fires, and water splash are all realistic and add significantly to the atmosphere. The problem is FTB is the same as with most one-screen games: the ball is too small to follow its trajectory accurately, so only sharp-eyed pinball experts will have a chance at high scores in this Pinball game. While Full Tilt! Pinball is by no means a classic pinball game. It is fun enough to warrant a revisit once in a while. Compared with other one-screen games, it's not as good as Crystal Caliburn, but much better than average fare.

Prince of Persia 2: The Shadow and the Flame is a platform game released by Broderbund in 1993 as the sequel to 1989's Prince of Persia You can download this here too. Both games were designed by Jordan Mechner, but unlike the original, he did not program the sequel himself.

Similar to the first Prince of Persia, the character explores various deadly areas by running, jumping, crawling, avoiding traps, solving puzzles and drinking magic potions. Prince of Persia 2 is more combat-heavy than its predecessor. 

The Shadow and the Flame

In the first game, enemies appear only occasionally and are always alone, while in the sequel, up to four enemies may appear at once, sometimes flanking the player, and may even be instantly replaced by reinforcements when they are killed. 

As in Prince of Persia, the trick is to complete the game under a strict time limit from 75 minutes (which start after a certain point in game) that passes in real time. Lives are unlimited, but time cannot be regained (except by reverting to a previously saved game). 

In other areas, more significant improvements have been made. The graphics are far more complex than the simple look of the game's predecessor, the areas explored are larger, and the variety of backdrops is greater.

Prince of Persia game was created by Jordan Mechner and published by Broderbund Software. One of the best soundtracks that are embedded in my mind. It was written by Jordan's dad, Francis, and the Adlib version sounds mesmerizing. Jordan had his brother wear white, walk and jump, in order to create the character. He drew each frame of the protagonist and using rotoscopy he achieved the animations of movement that for the time were amazing.

Prince of Persia was released in 1989 on the Apple II and received critical acclaim followed by commercial success when released in Japan the following year. The fluid character animations, considered cutting edge at the time, were based on videos of the game designer's brother performing stunts as well as action sequences from classic films.

The plot, influenced by the Arabian Nights tales, revolves around the eponymous Prince who has been imprisoned by the evil Grand Vizier Jaffar. He has one hour to escape the dungeon and rescue the Sultan's daughter who has been placed under a curse by Jaffar and given a choice to marry him or die!

A side scrolling action game, gameplay consists of navigating Jaffar's dungeons and later his tower by running, climbing and avoiding traps (along with Jaffar's guards). As the game progresses, the Prince will also be hindered by his own doppelganger, conjured up by Jaffar to thwart him.

Although simple by today's standards, it's still very playable, the gameplay has inspired many future cinematic action platformers such as Flashback. A sequel Prince of Persia 2: The Shadow of the Flame can be download from the link.

Compression ratio results are very dependent upon the data used for the tests. Usually, 7-Zip compresses to 7z format 30-70% better than to zip format. And 7-Zip compresses to zip format 2-10% better than most of other zip compatible programs.
